The Fundação Bienal de São Paulo and Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) renew their partnership on the FAAP Artistic Residency for the 31st edition of the Bienal de São Paulo. Under the program, foreign artists on two to eight-week residencies in São Paulo pursue lines of research and activity in order to produce new work for the exhibition. The group of residents at the Lutetia Building in 2014 is the most numerous the program has had since it began in 2006.

The artists are planning different types of project for the 31st Bienal based on their experience in the city. An example is Danica Dakic, known for her video and photographic installations, for whom study in-loco will result in a film featuring children from Santa Inês College. For the Egyptian Anna Boghiguian, whose work contemplates the spiritual dimension of urban spaces and the origins of the human race, visits to the Amazon will foster a new series of drawings and sculptures. For Indian Prabhakar Pachpute, author of the poster for the 31st Bienal, the residency will be divided between São Paulo and Minas Gerais, where he plans to study the life of the state’s coal miners. Nilbar Güres will be working on an installation made up of religious statuary and other items from the Brazilian and Turkish cultures.

In addition to these, other confirmed presences are El Hadji Sy (Senegal), Erick Beltrán (Mexico), Ines Doujak (Austria), John Barker (UK), Juan Pérez Agirregoikoa (Spain), Pedro G. Romero (Spain), Sheela Gowda (India), and Ruangrupa (Indonesia). Parallel activities, such as talks and encounters between the artists and FAAP staff and students and the general public, will be held on the last Wednesday of each month at Lutetia Building.
