An original project by poet Maria Isabel Iorio, it has been running since 2019. The action proposes a full reading aloud of books of poems. The reading is done by poets and the books selected stress accessibility issues on several fronts: they are either out of print, expensive editions, or works with less circulation due to non-universal markers: queer, racialized poets, etc. The project defends poetry as a form of knowledge, encourages reading but also orality, listening and the creation of temporary communities. In this edition, Carol Dall Farra, Bruna Beber and Floresta are taking part. All editions are held in public places, with free admission.
In this edition, Cheryl Clarke’s book Living Like a Lesbian will be read.
Maria Isabel Iorio is a poet, writer and screenwriter. She has published Não pisar descalça em tapete (7Letras, 2022), Dia sim dia não fazer chantagem (Quelônio, 2021), among others. She is part of the anthology As 29 poetas hoje (Companhia das Letras, 2021), organised by Heloisa Buarque de Hollanda.
Sauna Lésbica is a collective movement for the celebration of Black lesbian and sapatão affectivities and a pleasurable, safe, and provocative space for experiencing politics, the spiritual and the profane, for loving and welcoming.
